As you explore the Burlingame School District and all that we have to offer, I am sure that you will have many questions.  This is a brief overview of Hoover's most frequently asked questions, and you can find additional information by exploring this website or calling the school office. We look forward to welcoming you and hope to make this transition as smooth as possible for you and your child.

Origination:  Hoover School was built in 1932.  In the late 1970’s the school was closed due to declining enrollment.  It reopened in 2016 after being closed for almost 40 years.

Enrollment:  There are currently 215 students in K-5 including a district preschool.  There are 11 classroom teachers, several credentialed specialists and a wonderful support staff.

Class Size: 
Grades K-3, 23:1 (average)
Grades 4&5, 27:1 (average)

District Schools: Hoover is one of six elementary schools in Burlingame - all but one are named after presidents!  There is one middle school called BIS.

Hot lunch is available daily from our district provider Chartwells.  The menu choices change daily and include a salad bar with fresh fruits and vegetables.

How do we register for school?
Online registration usually begins in February. A child is eligible to enroll for kindergarten if they will turn five on or before September 1 of that year.  New students in grades 1-5 will also register online.

What is transitional kindergarten (TK)?
TK is designed for all BSD pre-k students whose fifth birthday is between September 2nd and December 2nd. The TK program is hosted at two schools in the district yet families must register at their home school.

What are the school hours?
Kindergartners attend school every day from 8:30 - 2:00 p.m. with a morning recess and a 40 minute lunch.

Grades 1-5 attend school from 8:30-3:00 p.m. - on Tuesdays, students are dismissed at 2:00 p.m..  Students in grades 1-5 have a morning recess, 40 minute lunch and afternoon break.

Is there Before & After School Care on campus?
Champions is our onsite daycare provider - they are located on the lower level of the school near the drop-off zone. You may contact them at 408-348-1610 or visit the Hoover page on their website at www.discoverchampions.com

Is there an After School Enrichment Program?
After school enrichment classes are offered on campus each week through Burlingame Parks and Recreation.  The schedule is sent home quarterly and can also be viewed on their website.

How can our family get involved?
The focus of our school is to build community by planning events that support family and bring people together.  You can look forward to school celebrations, summer playdates, parent socials, family gatherings at local venues, opportunities to volunteer on campus and joining PTA and/or Dad’s Club.

How will we be notified of upcoming events for new families?
After your registration for Hoover is complete, we will contact you by mail and email with updates including calendars, kindergarten parent night, kindergarten entrance interviews, etc. You can also call the office - we are here to help!
