Dear Hoover parents!

Hello! I hope everyone is doing well! Thank you for signing up to be a Project Cornerstone reader at Hoover this year! I’m excited to share more about the Project Cornerstone ABC Reader program and what to expect as we launch it here.

I can truly say that having this program at my school in Los Altos when I was a teacher was instrumental in fostering a positive, connected culture for both students and parents. I’m thrilled to launch it at Hoover with you!

Classroom Reader Commitment & Details
Project Cornerstone Classroom Readers commit to:

  • Read the 7 books this school year, following the school-wide monthly schedule and use the lesson plans provided. (About a 45 minute lesson...)

  • (If applicable) Partner with another parent reader for your assigned class.
    (If you like, you may serve as the reader for your own child’s class.)

  • Coordinate with your assigned teacher to schedule your 7 monthly reading dates/times.

  • Complete fingerprinting clearance this school year before your first lesson (if not already done last year).

  • Submit the Project Cornerstone volunteer paperwork before your first lesson.

  • Enjoy being a supportive parent role model that students will look up to!

  • Optional: Attend or view the monthly Zoom training (live or recorded) for each book.

Lead Volunteer Opportunity
We are looking for a Hoover Project Cornerston Lead Volunteer to:

  • Serve as the liaison between Hoover and the Project Cornerstone team.

  • Receive communications from Project Cornerstone and share key updates with our Hoover Parent Classroom Readers.

  • Help coordinate and support our reading team throughout the year.

  • Sample Lesson Plan (for another book - but it gives you an idea. They are thorough and helpful.)

Next Steps:
Please join me for an optional info session on Friday, August 22 at 8:50 AM in the Hoover Library. Fingerprinting will be happening on site from 8:30 on - so maybe you can do both at the same time!
