Dear Hoover families,
I just have to share how our Hoover students are buzzing with learning during word study! For example, on Monday mornings, students in Rooms 20, 21, and 22 mix across classes and grade levels to work in five different leveled groups led by Mrs. Frank, Mrs. Weyer, Mrs. McCoy, our RTI teacher Mrs. Herrmann and our RSP teacher, Ms. Kim.
Students complete word sorts and choose from weekly activities to explore spelling patterns, prefixes, suffixes, and morphemes to build stronger phonics, spelling, and vocabulary skills. The hands-on approach emphasizes word patterns over memorization and helps students grow their confidence as readers and spellers. It’s also a fun way for them to learn alongside peers from different classes and grade levels!
A big shout-out to Ms. Cook and Mrs. Herrmann for bringing this flexible, engaging word study model to multiple classes and grade levels at Hoover, and to our teachers for their creativity, dedication, and collaboration in trying a new approach to reach and support our students! Go Hawks! We are definitely glowing up this year!
